Your winter holiday in Cermes

Cross country. Downhill skiing. Winter hiking. In South Tyrol

The winter in the Merano country is fantastic. Skiing on the best prepared, family-friendly slopes of the ski resorts Vigiljoch, Merano 2000 and Schwemmalm im Ultental. Especially long is the season on Schnalstal glacier reachable in one hour from your MONDI Hotel Tscherms. Cross country in Vinschgau, Etschtal and Hafling. Or sledging on rapid, partly floodlighted tracks and in the snow-covered nature. Just around the MONDI Hotel Tscherms, there are wonderful opportunities for your winter holiday in South Tyrol. The most beautiful? The traditional and cosy huts inviting for delicious meals in their warm insides. Winter sports are thus twice as much enjoying. After snowboarding just like during your ski tour, snowshoe hike or winter walk.

Vigiljoch: The small and nice ski resort

Ideal for families and gentle winter sports

Four lift facilities, five kilometres of tracks and slopes bathing in sun that also makes the hearts of winter sportsmen beat faster. That is the family-friendly Vigiljoch ski resort (1,743 m), which is outstanding for its favourable prices and relaxed atmosphere in the middle of the Ortler ski arena. The winter magic with many panoramic views for skiers, sledgers and snowshoers (rental in the valley station). Special tip: The nostalgia chairlift will bring you also to the curling place up on the Monte San Vigilio. Experience unforgettable enjoyments at the idyllic Lago Nero.

Schwemmalm: 25 Kilometers of Joy

Ideal for families and lovers of winter sports.

Seven lifts and twenty-five kilometres of pistes. Families feel comfortable on the Schwemmalm due to the manageability of the skiing holiday. Demanding and experienced skiers also appreciate the sunny slopes. This is the Schwemmalm ski area (1,147 m), which scores with a relaxed atmosphere in the middle of the Ortler Ski Arena.

The Val Senales Glacier

Place where they found Ötzi

The Schnals Valley is known as the place where Ötzi lived and was found. Thanks to the eternal ice and coincidence, Ötzi's remains have been preserved for later generations. Whether on the glacier, where the Iceman Ötzi Peak bows to the panorama, or in the valley in Kurzras, where a shepherds' festival is held every year to celebrate the return of the sheep. The Schnals Valley lets you celebrate ancient traditions and follow Ötzi's footsteps, taste regional ingredients, discover natural treasures and follow your thirst for adventure. All year round! The special thing: Pleasantly cool in summer, deep snow in winter. The glacier comprises 42 kilometres of sunny pistes at an altitude of 2,000 to 3,200 metres.

Winter hiking in South Tyrol

Fun on the hill and in the valley

From the prepared ridge path all the way to the snow-free hiking trail in the Merano basin: The Merano country offers a unique variety of hiking opportunities. Especially in winter. While the winter sports resorts high up lead through dreamlike snowy landscapes, the South Tyrolean channel paths, the Tappeiner path or the spa town winter promenades provide pleasant temperatures. Whatever is your decision: Your refreshment in one of the huts should not be missed once you decided for winter hiking around Cermes.

Sledging around Cermes

Sledging pass for grown-ups and kids

Sledging has a long tradition in South Tyrol. At many places, natural chutes wind down into valleys, and they are easily reachable by ski resort lifts. Through woods and meadows. Some steep and twisty, some mild and suitable for the whole family. In the Merano 2000 family ski resort, skid sportsmen can also enjoy the “Alpin Bob” rail toboggan run. On the Schnalstal glacier, the longest sledging trail extending over 3,5 km provides for a genuine fun in snow. Sledge can be rented in all ski rental shops and some neighbouring inns.

Cross country skiing in the Merano country

Trails amidst a splendid panorama

Most varied trails are available around the MONDI Hotel Tscherms. For both skating and classic techniques. Guarantee of snow high up on the Schnalstal glacier. Beautiful views and ambitions at Merano 2000. Particularly romantic in the Ultental valley where the trail leads along old farms and with the time seeming to stand still. Or an idyllic landscape, but with 351 metres up to the Lazinser Alm. The South Tyrol offers over 2,000 kilometres of well prepared trails and round courses. Some of them flat and suitable for beginners. Other ones sporty and demanding. Always with unforgettable views of the Texel Group and Sarntal Alps.
